Astrazeneca plc is a constituent of the FTSE 100 as well as a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and operates within the fields of pharmaceuticals and biologics; involved specifically in the development and production of medicines for serious disease areas, including, but not limited to, cancer, cardiovasuclar, gastrointestinal, neuroscience, respiration and inflammation. Astrazeneca is the seventh-largest pharmaceutical company in the world, according to the 2013 prescritpion drug sales and is operating in over 100 countries, with a market capitalization of £54.8 billion as of 1 August 2014.
- On 4 February 1998, Astra USA sued Lars Bildman, its former president and chief executive officer, for $15 million that was allegedly defrauded from the company. Astra's lawsuit alleged that Bildman had sexually harassed abd intimidated several female employees, used company funds for yachts and prostitutes, as well as destroying documents and records to attempt to hide the embezzlement.
- On 27 July 2015, Fabio Taborre returned a positive doping test result for the blood-booster FG-4592 in a out-of-competition control screening. FG-4952 is in the third stages of clinical trials and was manufactured jointly by Fibrogen and Astrazeneca to naturally stimulate production of Erythropoietin (EPO) to achieve the same results of altitude training.
