Ticker Symbol

A stock symbol or ticker symbol is a short code used to identify tradable instruments on an exchange. These "Ticker symbols" were originally printed on paper tape by a ticker tape machine.
In the UK a stock symbol is also known as an EPIC.
The London Stock Exchange uses the phrase Tradable Instrument Display Mnemonic (TIDM) to refer to symbols.
